Te Rōpū Rāranga Katikati

Porina and I were at the Kaitiaki Pod catching up, while Bobbie (Mauao Kaitiaki) was out and about.
Upon her return, she brought with her BUNDLES of harakeke - and not far behind her was Te Rōpū Rāranga Katikati.

It was our first time meeting, and we learned that Te Rōpū Rāranga Katikati is a dedicated group of passionate wāhine who met through studies and connect on a monthly basis to weave.

Today, they travelled to Mauao to clean up the pā harakeke at Waipatukakahu (with permission), and along the way bumped in to Bobbie!

They all worked together to remove the excess harakeke and haul the flax back to the Kaitiaki Pod! They may have left a pile for the boys to clean up 😅 (Ngā mihi Josh, our Mauao Ranger 🫡)

It was great to connect with these wāhine and we admire the work that is done not only to continue our tradition of weaving, but also act as kaitiaki of Mauao 💖
